ADA recommends a dental cleaning visit at least every 6 months.
Depending on the severity of your gum conditions, you may need more frequent dental cleanings or scaling root planing (aka "deep cleaning"). Root planing is done by removing calculus and plaque below the gums and may require multilpe visits. To understand the type of gum condition - it is determined at the examination.
